Motius is a research and development company with a unique organizational structure: we combine a solid core team (approximately 70 employees) with an interdisciplinary tech community (approximately 800 members) of software developers, engineers, designers and electrical engineers to build products and prototypes the latest technology areas (including App/Web, A.I., Blockchain, AR / VR and much more).
As Senior Deep Learning Engineer you're part of our A.I. Cluster and join our diverse R&D projects (each ~3-9 months duration) in small and agile teams as Lead Engineer. In this role, you'll not only be part of 1 or 2 of our exciting projects, but also will help our cluster to become constantly better, e.g. by creating reusable components and assets or by coaching and mentoring younger engineers during their career development. Internally we call this position Tech Specialist.
We started with Motius over 7 years ago in Munich, where we still have our headquarters. Since the end of 2017 we have opened a new location in Stuttgart to solve technically challenging problems and build exciting products also in Baden-Württemberg. We started with a sales team in Stuttgart and now we would like to take the next important strategic step together with you and implement the projects in Stuttgart step by step. Your role
- Joining 3-9 months long R&D projects in engineering teams of 2-5 people as Lead Engineer
- Building real A.I. solutions for various industries and for different use cases
- In the beginning you will work closely with our developers in Munich and help us to build up the Stuttgart team - we don't do customer-on-site consulting
- Defining the right tech stack and setting up the architecture for the projects
- Following a two-weekly Scrum process using GitLab, Slack, Kanban, Continous Integration & Delivery, etc.
- Mentoring and coaching younger engineers, making sure we build high quality products
- Constantly improving our A.I. cluster by introducing new tools, technologies and frameworks
Your profile
- University degree in Computer Science or in similar disciplines
- At least 3-5 years of experience in agile software development and with state-of-the-art Deep Learning & Machine Learning approaches & models (for example in Reinforcement Learning, GANs, Graph Neural Networks, Natural Language Processing etc)
- Strong experience in Python and with various libraries/frameworks (e.g. numpy, scipy, pandas, sklearn, Tensorflow, PyTorch etc.)
- Experience in engineering practices such as code refactoring, design patterns, design driven development, continuous integration, building highly scalable applications/digital product
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills paired with the ability to develop creative and efficient solutions for our clients
- Comfortable with ambiguity and rapid changes common in early-stage product development
- Strong command of English language (both verbal and written), German is a plus

Here at Motius we follow an agile approach to project management that enables us to deliver value to our customers in short intervals but more regularly. This approach allows us to evaluate results and requirements continuosly, enabling us to respond to change quickly.

Office vibes
Our headquarter is located in Munich, we also have offices in Stuttgart and Dubai. We normally don't have fixed desks at Motius but due to Covid-19, everyone has a fixed desk and/or is working from home. Rooms and areas have certain rules and furniture and therefore offer everybody to find a place where they can be productive, e.g. in areas with standing desks, couches, meeting rooms, workshop, or in an open space. We offer you fresh fruits, coffee and cool drinks. But, remember to always lock your screen: if not, you'll probably volunteer to bring a cake or muffins to the office.
How we deal with Covid-19
To make sure we all stay safe and healthy, we have special office rules since March. We encourage our Motees to do Home Office on a voluntary basis and also provide you with a desktop, chair, table and more stuff you need for the perfect home office set-up. But if you feel too socially distanced, you can also come to the office to your fixed desk. Meetings in person are allowed if you stick to the offical distance rules.
First interviews will be remote, most of the technical interviews as well. For Experience Days, we will invite you to our office but stick to distance rules.
